Ben provides technical and scientific support for TNC’s Ocean Recovery Strategy using his background in restoration, spatial analysis, and marine ecology. Much of Ben’s work focuses on designing and implementing marine habitat restoration and species recovery projects in California with a primary focus on kelp, seagrass, and abalone.
Prior to joining TNC, Ben worked as the Marine Program Director at The Bay Foundation, a non-profit based in Los Angeles working to restore kelp forests, seagrass meadows, and abalone populations. He also worked as a research technician for the Vantuna Research Group, Channel Islands National Park, and Southern California Marine Institute. Ben holds a bachelor's degree in biology from Occidental College and a master's degree in marine biology from Cal Poly Pomona.
What Ben is working on now:
Ben is currently a co-PI on a state funded project to accelerate and scale bull kelp ecosystem recovery in northern California.
